What Is Online Personal Training?

Body Project Online Personal Training is a comprehensive fitness & wellbeing coaching experience that goes a step beyond conventional personal training, offering much closer and more frequent support than is possible in person. It's a holistic service, offering unlimited workouts, nutrition support, lifestyle & mindset coaching, and a range of bonuses.

This article provides additional information about the Online Personal Training experience, and you can view full details about the service including pricing, a list of bonuses, and FAQ's via the button below.

How Does Online Personal Training Work?

Consultation

Online Personal Training begins with a friendly conversation to discuss your goals, preferences, and any obstacles you might be facing. It's an opportunity for me to gather the information I need to tailor your programme, and also for you to ask questions and learn more about the service. If we feel it’s a good fit, I’ll offer you the opportunity to become a BodyProject client. Consultations are free, with absolutely no obligation to sign up.

Personalised Workout Plan

Your personalised training programme is created based on your initial consultation, and designed to integrate seamlessly with your lifestyle, adapting over time to your changing needs. You may be training at home or in a gym, and workouts are built around the equipment, time and energy you have available, allowing flexibility for travel, work/family commitments, and injury/illness. You’ll complete workouts independently, and receive feedback and advice on each workout once you've uploaded your results. You can (and may be asked to) include videos for technique review.

Nutrition Coaching

Only in very rare cases will you receive a set meal plan as part of your online personal training experience. Unfortunately, meal plans are a poor long-term nutritional strategy, as they don't empower people to make better choices and build healthy habits. People often revert back to old eating behaviours after finishing a meal plan or diet, and the benefits tend to be short-lived.

I’ll calculate your nutritional needs and support you to optimise your diet, gradually improving your nutritional habits so that eventually you can eat intuitively without too much effort. I actively discourage restrictive dieting, and you can continue to enjoy the foods you love in a balanced way.

Lifestyle & Wellness Coaching

Body Project Online Personal Training includes optional wellbeing and lifestyle tasks, such as mindfulness, stretching, 10k steps, sleep routines etc to help you reach your goals faster. A holistic approach yields best results, and together we’ll decide which wellbeing practises are relevant for you.

Daily In-App Support

Online Personal Training takes place on my coaching platform, which can be used on your computer or smartphone. Here you can view workouts, coaching instructions & exercise demo videos, update your results, track progress, and securely store your personal information. The app includes a direct messenger function, and I’m available every weekday to answer your questions.

Weekly Check-In

Depending on what we've agreed is relevant for you, each week you'll be asked to answer some questions about your nutrition, sleep, stress etc. It's an opportunity for you to remain mindful and focused on your goal, and for me to understand your changing needs in order to monitor progress, coach you through obstacles, and inform ongoing programming.

Monthly Coaching Call

Each month we’ll catch up via video or phone call for some real-time coaching. Anything is up for discussion, but the focus is usually on overcoming obstacles and tuning up your mindset.

Who Is Online Personal Training For?

Online Personal Training isn't for everyone. I often remark that I could write the best training programme in the world, but that wouldn't matter if it doesn't get followed. As much support and guidance as you get with online PT, ultimately you have to engage with the process, putting in moderate, consistent effort in order to earn results. You might expect to dedicate an hour a day (sometimes more, sometimes less) to working on your fitness, nutrition and wellbeing, and I never give a client more than what we've agreed they can handle.

This holistic fitness service is a no-brainer for you if:

  • Fitness and wellbeing are a priority for you
  • You want maximum results for your time and energy
  • You want to ensure you’re doing the right exercises for your needs
  • You're ready to make positive long term changes to your health and lifestyle
  • You want expert coaching without the need to travel for appointments
  • You want to work with a kind and experienced PT who is dedicated to your progress
  • You have or are cultivating a healthy attitude to mistakes/failure
  • You're open to learning and trying new things

What Does Online Personal Training Do?

Online Personal Training takes a systematic, holistic approach to get you to your goals. The journey looks completely different for each client, although the process is generally the same. Right from the first consultation, I help clients refine their goals and dig deep into their origins and motivations. To learn a little more about that process, check out this client case study.

  • Weight loss
  • Muscle building/toning
  • Strength
  • Fitness
  • Mobility/flexibility
  • Injury rehabilitation
  • Postural correction
  • Improved sporting performance
  • Preparation for pregnancy and childbirth
  • Physical independence in retirement

After an in-depth goal-setting process, I/we decide on the most appropriate set of metrics to track progress towards these goals. Most of these are quantitative (ie numerical data with graphs), and I also believe it's important to track more qualitative factors such as stress levels or mood. Some examples of metrics I'll typically use are:

  • Bodyweight
  • Circumferential measurements (tape measurements)
  • Body fat %
  • Progress photos
  • Strength 1RM tests
  • VO2 Max test
  • Various other fitness tests
  • BOLT test
  • Movement assessments
  • Flexibility tests
  • Self reports on stress, mood, menstrual symptoms etc
  • I'm also happy to analyse reports you may have received from other medical or sporting professionals, such as DEXA scans, food intolerance tests etc.

In terms of results, as well as achieving their original goals, clients tend to come away with a range of additional improvements and achievements. Often these are even more valuable and life-changing than the goals they originally set out to achieve. Examples include:

  • Confidence in their skin & clothes
  • Improved mindset and overall mood
  • Increased concentration and productivity
  • Greater immunity and fewer illnesses
  • Improvements in existing health conditions
  • Reduced aches and pains
  • Increased life expectancy
  • More enjoyment and satisfaction in life
  • A sense of health & wellbeing
  • Healthier relationships
  • More energy and vitality
  • Body awareness and athleticism
  • Confidence trying new activities

What Is Online Personal Training Like?

I may not be the best person to ask about this! Considering that I personally deliver this service, it makes more sense for its recipients - my lovely clients - to describe the experience. To give a good cross-section, here are some reviews from a range of people who've used Online Personal Training for varying lengths of time, each with a different set of goals, needs and preferences:

“Mel’s service helps provide a positive and long term relationship with fitness. I saw results with moderate changes to my life, which I was really happy to do. This is the longest stretch of time I’ve managed to work out consistently. I find myself looking forward to workouts and I think I may be set for a long term relationship with fitness. Most significantly, Mel has coached me in a safe and healthy manner. I could never imagine running 12km without fearing that my knee would explode. I’m really, really pleased we’re working through that and making sustainable progress!” - Deepali P

“If you want flexibility, support and someone who is there to prioritise your health and training then I couldn't recommend Mel enough. Online coaching has honestly changed my approach to health and fitness and also my attitude to myself.” - Claire G

“Mel is an incredible support to me, far more holistically than just fitness. She’s a coach in every sense of the word - physically, emotionally, nutritionally. I thought I was getting a PT, I was actually getting a life coach, and a really bloody good one too.” - James B
